Challenge
Which Mediterranean indicator species are the most sensitive to environmental stress, and where along the coasts is ecological quality β captured by the MedSens index β lowest?
- Where to start
- Open MedSens_data.shp directly from the ZIP with geopandas (zip://.../MedSens_data 20230423.zip!MedSens_data.shp). Each row is one species (taxon) at one survey (id_survey), with an abundance class ab (0-6) and a per-species MedSens Sensitivity Value MSVtot (plus MSVphy/MSVchem/MSVbio components and an NIS invasive flag). Rank species by MSVtot, then compute a survey-level index as the abundance-weighted mean of MSVtot over present species (ab>0) and plot it against lat/lon.
- What to share
- A ranking of the 25 species by sensitivity (highlighting invasive/NIS taxa) and an offline map or coarse spatial grid of the survey-level MedSens index showing where ecological quality is lowest, optionally broken down by habitat or year.
