Challenge
Automated audio recorders and human eBird checklists both surveyed the same rainforest β but do they agree on how common and where each species is? Pick one of the five suboscine species and quantify where the two methods agree and disagree.
- Where to start
- Open data.zip and read the per-species zero-filled checklist entries data/checklists-zf_CICRA_relOct-2024-<code>.csv straight from the archive (skip the __MACOSX entries). Each row is one survey: use the source column (Audio vs eBird) and the species_observed boolean, plus latitude/longitude. Compare detection rates by source, then map detections by source. Optionally join environmental-variables_checklists.csv on checklist_id to bring in habitat variables like elevation_mean_300m and HAND_mean_300m.
- What to share
- A chart or map comparing detections by data source for your chosen species (rate and/or spatial coverage), plus a short note on where the two methods disagree and a plausible ecological or sampling reason why.
